(Unila): Societies including students are liable to keep the environment clean. Muhammad Shafwan Assalam, majoring in the Public Administration at the University of Lampung (Unila), has been actively concerned with resolving environmental issues and he was appointed the second place for the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) project at the International Islamic University Malaysia.

He was also selected as one of delegates for the Global Youth Innovation Summit initiated by the NGO Pemuda Mendunia in cooperation with the International Islamic University Malaysia and University Malaya. The delegates worked on the project with respect to SDGs and they reported the results of their project.

The competition constitutes a manifestation of SDGs as a world agenda for peace and human’s prosperity in the globe today and in the future. Shafwan raised issues of the environmental sector, particularly shedding light on waste management in Indonesia.

The data from the National Waste Management Information System in 2023 showed that 33.53 percent or 5.8 million tons of waste were not properly managed. This suggests that the resolution to sort out this problem needs to be made so that the sustainability of nature and human prosperity would be necessarily maintained.

In addition, the competition facilitates him to bolster his critical thinking and to improve his capabilities of thinking skills, as well as to concern himself with SDGs issues. His participating in the competition facilitates him to make more friends from different countries and to broaden his horizons. [PR Team]
