(Unila): Student from the University of Lampung (Unila) has once again made a remarkable achievement on the national stage. Jesica Florisa has won first place in the national French song cover competition at La Fête, organized by State University of Yogyakarta, held online on May 15, 2026.
In this competition, Jesica chose the legendary song titled “Je vole.” She selected this song as she had previously won the National First Place at the State University of Jakarta by performing the same piece. With a Free Cover competition system, she maximized her potential and was once again trusted to occupy the highest podium.
For Jesica, participating in this competition is not just about seeking victory but also serves as a platform to hone her language skills that she is currently focusing on. “I joined the competition to gain experience and to practice my French pronunciation. It’s like killing two birds with one stone,” Jesica stated.
Despite the relatively short preparation time due to signing up close to the deadline, Jesica concentrated on perfecting her pronunciation to perform better than before. As an online competition requiring video uploads on social media, she admitted to facing mental challenges, including feelings of insecurity regarding her abilities compared to other participants from various regions in Indonesia.
However, she successfully overcame these challenges with thorough preparation. This achievement is also attributed to the significant support from her surrounding environment. Jesica expressed her deep gratitude to God, her family, the lecturers in the French Education Department, and her friends who continuously provided unwavering support.
For Jesica, this accomplishment serves as a personal reflection to remain humble. She hopes that her achievement can have a positive impact on the institution she represents. “For me personally, this achievement is very meaningful because I hope that the French Education program at Unila will become more widely recognized, even globally,” she stated optimistically.
Jesica shared a motivational message for all Unila students to not fear failure and to be brave enough to step out of their comfort zones. According to her, the courage to try is the first step towards personal growth.
“Many people have the ability but are afraid they are not good enough. However, without trying, we will never know how far we can go. Do your best with all your heart, trust God, and believe that effort and prayer will not betray the results,” she advised.
This achievement is expected to inspire other Unila students to continue exploring their potential, be brave in competition, and consistently uphold the name of their alma mater on both national and international stages. [Gandhi Irawan]
