(Unila): Students of the Community Service Program (KKN) of the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP) of the University of Lampung (Unila) held a socialization on preventing juvenile delinquency with the theme “Characterized Teenagers, Safer Schools: Education and Guidance as Steps to Prevent Juvenile Delinquency”, in the Hall of SMP Negeri 29 Bandar Lampung.
This activity aimed to increase students’ understanding of the importance of building positive character in order to create a safe and conducive school environment through continuous education and coaching.
The socialization began at 1:10 p.m. WIB and was attended by 30 students accompanied by a guidance and counseling teacher from SMP Negeri 29 Bandar Lampung. The event began with a site and participant orientation, an opening ceremony, and the singing of the national anthem, Indonesia Raya.
After that, a speech was delivered by the head of the KKN FKIP Unila student committee, followed by a speech and opening of the event by Mr. Khizmi, M.Pd., as Deputy Head of Student Affairs of SMP Negeri 29 Bandar Lampung.
In the main session, the KKN students presented a resource person from the Bandar Lampung Police Department, AKP Resmawati, SH, Head of the Community Development Unit (Kasat Binmas).
In his presentation, he explained that juvenile delinquency is deviant behavior carried out by teenagers and is contrary to legal norms, social norms, and applicable regulations.
Furthermore, AKP. Resmawati, SH, explained various forms of juvenile delinquency that frequently occur, including bullying, brawls, truancy, alcohol consumption, and drug abuse.
He also explained several factors that cause juvenile delinquency, including identity crisis, lack of supervision and attention from the family, negative social influences, and low self-control.
These internal and external factors can influence adolescent behavior if not balanced with good character development. AKP Resmawati also provided an understanding of the legal consequences or criminal sanctions for several forms of juvenile delinquency that have entered the criminal realm.
He emphasized that even though the perpetrator is still under 18 years old, there is still a legal process in accordance with applicable laws and regulations, of course with a special approach to children, he emphasized the importance of the role of the family, school, and community environment in shaping the character of adolescents.
Prevention can be done by increasing self-confidence, building good relationships between students, being polite to parents and teachers, strengthening character education in schools, and participating in positive activities to channel students’ interests and talents.
The socialization session was interactive, with a question-and-answer session between students and speakers. The students appeared enthusiastic and actively discussed issues frequently encountered by youth.
Through this activity, the KKN FKIP Unila students hope that students of SMP Negeri 29 Bandar Lampung can understand the impact of juvenile delinquency and be motivated to become a generation with character, discipline, and obey the law in order to create a safer and more comfortable school environment.
The event concluded with a group photo session to document and appreciate the participation of all parties involved. [Muzamil Kakar]
