(Unila): Muhamad Ridwan and Sasmita Ningrum, majoring in physics, the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA) Unila gave an online presentation in front of PT. HAS Environmental to introduce a new innovation, a very sophisticated and precise internet of things (IoT)-based air quality monitoring tool and system.

The tool is specifically developed to detect several important air pollutants, such as nitrogen dioxide (NO2), carbon monoxide (CO), carbon dioxide (CO2), and particles of matter measuring 10 micrometers (PM10).

It is expected to greatly assist environmental experts and governments in measuring and identifying air pollution levels in a given area. One of the main advantages of this innovation is its integration with a website, which allows access for anyone, anytime, and anywhere as long as it is connected to the internet network.

Users can monitor real-time air quality data and obtain useful information to take precautions when air pollution levels reach dangerous levels. This monitoring tool and system will increase public awareness of the importance of maintaining air quality.

The data of air quality collected from the tool can be used as a reference for the government in formulating environmental protection policies. The tool has indicated the result of a good level of accuracy of levels of air pollution.  It has significant contribution to monitor and reduce air pollution.

This innovation receives a positive response from PT. HAS Environmental, a company in collaboration with FMIPA Unila. General Manager PT. HAS Environmental, Robbi Nugroho Sutrisno expressed his enthusiasm to follow up the innovation. He plans to formulate sustainability efforts in the development of this tool as a product of domestic pride to support better environmental quality.

This innovation marks a step forward for FMIPA Unila to encourage lecturers and students to do research and cooperation with industries. Thus, researchers are required to meet the needs of local industries in Indonesia and the international world.

The success of the innovation has been made possible due to the support of their supervisors, Amir Supriyanto, M.Si., Humairoh Queen Ayu, M.Si., and Gurum Ahmad Pauzi, M.T. This innovation is in line with the spirit to support the use of domestic products and to encourage the growth of local industries. It is expected to provide great benefits to the community and the environment. [PR Team]
