(Unila): The University of Lampung (Unila) and Universiti Teknikal Malaysia Melaka (UTeM) have reached a mutual agreement to create an academic collaboration focused on the discipline of engineering.
The signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) took place between Dr. Ayi Ahadiat, the Vice Chancellor for PKTIK Unila, and Prof. Zulkifilie bin Ibrahim, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic and International UTeM), on Monday, June 5, 2023, in the main courtroom located on the second floor of the rectorate building.
The MoU signing ceremony was witnessed by Professor Lusmeilia Afriani, the Chancellor of Unila, Dr. Fairul Azhar bin Abdul Shukor, the Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering at UTeM, Dr. Hyreil bin Kasdirin, the Director of the Office of Academic Planning and Development at UTeM, as well as the chairman of the senate, vice chancellors, chairman of SPI, deans, bureau heads, heads of institutions, and heads of UPTs on campus.
During his address, Professor Zulkifilie conveyed his gratitude and recognition to the University of Lampung (Unila) for extending a warm reception to the visiting team from the Universiti Teknikal Malaysia Melaka (UTeM).
He extended congratulations to his team, with particular emphasis on acknowledging the Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering at UTeM and the Dean of FT Unila, for their involvement in the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).
His gratitude also went to the recipient’s enthusiasm in engaging in a collaborative endeavor with the University of Technology Malaysia (UTeM). According to Professor Zulkifilie, the execution of the MoU between the two entities marked the initiation of prospective cooperation between them.
He further expressed the desire for the establishment of a collaborative partnership between UTeM and Unila, with a focus on several domains such as education, knowledge acquisition, scholarly inquiry, and inventive advancements.
UTeM established in the year 2000, is a prominent private institution in Malaysia. It is renowned for its specialized emphasis on the domains of engineering and technology.
Recently, UTeM has operated a learning center in many locations, encompassing the island of Java, specifically Jakarta, Yogyakarta, Surakarta, and even Dubai. This learning center is primarily intended to provide comprehensive assistance and resources to facilitate the academic pursuits of students enrolled in UTeM programs.
UTeM is prepared to implement a student mobility program in the near future, along with collaborative initiatives encompassing undergraduate, graduate, and doctorate degrees, as well as a combined lecture program.
Prof. Zulkifilie bin Ibrahim believes that complementarily mutual collaboration, with the aim of facilitating the attainment of an international standard for both universities will shortly be reached.
In the meantime, Professor Lusmeilia Afriani conveyed her satisfaction over the initiation of an academic partnership between Unila and UTeM.
She expresses optimism over the potential mutual advantages that may be derived from this partnership, particularly in enhancing the standard of education and research within the domain of engineering.
This intensive focus on engineering education and research is primarily centered on the Faculty of Engineering at Unila.
During the meeting, the two parties engaged in discussions pertaining to several mutually supportive programs, including student mobility, research initiatives, and international collaborative classrooms.
In addition to doing research, there are plans to engage in international collaborations in the realm of community service in the future. UTeM has an existing program in this area, which needs to be further developed and pursued.
The Chancellor extended an invitation to lecturers and students from Unila to engage in knowledge and experience exchange with UTeM.
