(Unila): Mutiara Sakinah, a student of the Electrical Engineering Study Program, the University of Lampung (Unila), accomplished an honorable feat on May 21 She won first position in the Mathematics Event of the PT Jenius Sains Indonesia Science Competition.
There were approximately 2,743 participants participating in the Olympiad from diverse public and private universities in Indonesia at this competition. This competition was held online with a one-hour time limit, adopting a scoring system of +15 for correct answers and -1 for incorrect answers.
Mutiara confesses that she has been actively participating in mathematics Olympiads since high school and has won numerous national-level mathematics Olympiads. To participate in this competition, she received assistance and funding from the Unila Electrical Engineering Student Association.
According to Mutiara, the most challenging subject matter to deal with is the application of integrals and exponents involving a large number of numbers and powers. This, she perceived, is a new problem she has ever encountered so far.
Mutiara had a strategy to work on the competition, by first working on the simple tasks, then completing more difficult tasks, and having the most difficult ones done. This was done to save the time.
Mutiara also pointed out that time and concentration were the major constraints on the race. She also suggested that participants require their full concentration to complete the tasks due to the tricky questions in the sense that they were long sentences and were provided with complex numbers so that minimum errors would be made.
She believes that her accomplishment motivates herself and other students to continue studying and working in their respective fields of interest.
According to her every individual is capable of conquering a field of interest provided that she or he studies hard. Everyone needs to contribute beneficial lives for herself or himself and others. [PR Team]
