(Unila): The University of Lampung (Unila) received a visit from representatives of the Department of Chemistry, Faculty of Science, University of Malaya, Monday to Friday, 5 – 9 December 2022.

The visit is a follow-up to the cooperation of Unila FMIPA Unila and the University of Malaya Faculty of Science. The collaboration has started since early 2019 and was signed by the Dean of the Faculty of Science Malaya University, Prof. Norzulaani Khalid and Prof. Warsito.

Student exchange activities (student exchange) from these two institutions have been running from 2019, but they sifted in modes, from offline to online during the Covid-19 pandemic for a long period of 2020 – 2021.

In 2022, Malaya University through the Department of Chemistry sent five students, Muhammad Ayub Bin Hasbullah (year 3 semester 1), Leonard Chia Anak Majang (year 2 semester 1), Hurin Batrisyia Binti M Salleh (year 2 semester 1), Chan Yong Jing (year 2 semester 1), and Sharifah Syarafana Binti Syed Abdul Aziz (year 2 sem1).

Among those in attendance were Dr. Muhammad Ameerullah and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nor Kartini, the Head of the Chemistry Department, University of Malaya, to discuss the expansion of cooperation between the two parties.

The welcome meeting was held on Monday, December 5, 2022 in the morning by Unila Academic Vice Chancellor Prof. Murhadi. The event was also witnessed by the Head of UPT PKLI Dr. Ayi Ahadiyat, Dean of FMIPA Dr. Suripto Dwi Yuwono, vice deans and heads of departments at FMIPA Unila.

The students of Malaya University are scheduled to receive provision of academic-related materials at the Unila FMIPA Chemistry Study Program for a week as well as an introduction to Lampung culture, including several tourist attractions in Lampung Province.

The activity is regarded as a part of strengthening international cooperation as stipulated in Unila’s current RPJP. The University of Malaya included in the QS100 university rankings or the world’s best university ranked 65th in the world university rankings 2022.

The Faculty of Science and Mathematics, Unila has also established collaboration with another QS 100 university rankings, i.e., Osaka University, Japan, which was carried out through the Inbound Researcher and Lecturer activity in September 2022.

The Department of Chemistry, especially the Bachelor of Chemistry Study Program, which has been internationally accredited by the Royal Society of Chemistry – London, England, on July 7, 2022, shows very good achievements in various respects, obtaining the 2022 Independent Campus Program Grant worth 1.2 billion of the total around 5 billion which was received along with another two study programs and the ISS Program at the Unila level.

Head of the Chemistry Department, Mulyono, Ph.D., said that the collaboration needs to be extended to other forms such as, research, reciprocal student exchanges for both undergraduate and postgraduate programs, exchange of course instructors, and scientific article writing.

Lecturers in the chemistry department are scheduled to hold discussions with department heads and representatives of Chemistry lecturers at the Faculty of Science, University of Malaya to discuss in more detail research topics or collaborations according to their areas of expertise.
