(Unila): Some lecturers were assigned to Kiluan Negri, Kelumbayan District, Tanggamus Regency for village mapping assistance for six months from March to August 2022.

They were comprised of three community service teams from across disciplines, i.e., social science, law, and education. One of the service teams led by Prof. Yulianto raised the theme “Assisting social mapping for environmental, social, and economic aspects of the Kiluan village community in supporting the achievement of the SDGs village”.

Yulianto said that the practice of community services constitutes actualization of the three pillars of higher education, Tridharma.

In 2022, the village of Kiluan Negri was chosen to be the village under Unila assistance due to its potential. Unila provided the inhabitants of the village with assistance in terms of facilities, appropriate technology, and a level of professionalism in a number of things so that they can improve better lives.

The community services took the forms of counseling, social mapping, covering environmental, social, and economic aspects, in supporting the achievement of SDGs village, said Yulianto, in an interview in early September 2022.

Not only did the team provid the inhabitants with assistance related to the use of digital media (digitalization) in supporting the achievement of the village SDGs but it also gave them office equipments to support village institutional activities in the local village.

According to Yulianto, the village of Kiluan Negri located in the coastal area of ​​Kiluan bay offers a variety of alternatives for tourist destinations and is one of the villages with incredible resources for marine tourism.

The village attracts tourists to visit for a number of reasons, among others, watching dolphin attractions, tracking to the Gayau Lagoon, exploring of Kelapa island, snorkeling and coral reef diving, and fishing activities. [PR Team]
