(Unila): Students of the Community Service Program (KKN) of the University of Lampung (Unila) period I in 2026 successfully implemented a work program in the form of socialization and the creation of a Rocket Stove as a solution for burning waste with minimal smoke on Thursday, January 23, 2026. This activity was carried out in RT 1 LK 1, Campang Raya Village, Sukabumi District, Bandar Lampung City.
The work program was implemented as a form of student awareness of the problem of household waste accumulation in Campang Raya Village, which has the potential to pollute the environment.
Based on field observations and coordination with the village head, neighborhood heads, neighborhood associations (RT), and the local community, it was found that waste management is still carried out conventionally and is not environmentally friendly.
This situation has the potential to cause air pollution due to the excessive smoke produced by burning waste. Through this community service program (KKN), students from the University of Lampung are working to educate the public about safer and more environmentally friendly alternatives to burn waste, such as the use of the Roket Stove.
The Rocket Stove was chosen because it has a more efficient combustion system, produces minimal smoke, and reduces air pollution compared to traditional waste incineration methods. This innovation is expected to be a practical solution that can be directly implemented by the community.
The work program was initiated by the KKN group of Campang Raya 2 Village consisting of Raden Leo Three Pawaka (Government Science), Amanda Salsabila (Accounting), Dian Sasi Kusuma (Agribusiness), M. Marshall Raghid.D (Digital Business), Lavitsa Azmil Faiza (Legal Science), Daffa Putra A (Government Science), Claris Margareth T (Communication Science), Falah Shalih Ammash (Legal Science), Dewa Gede Eka Cahya Kumara (Legal Science), Joy Keren Margaretha (Communication Science), Louise Agustin Oktavia (Pharmacy), Fatimatul Zahra (Legal Science), Irfan Marcellino (Computer Science).
And involving the KKN group of Campang Raya 1 Village, namely Chenji Manda Lubis (Mechanical Engineering), AM Rama (Informatics Engineering), Callista Nabila Sally (Agricultural Product Technology), Nur Yasmin Azzahra (International Relations), Rakyan Chanda Khairunnisa (Management), Gina Zelyka Finanda (Plant Protection), Nissa Septae Widia (Agronomy), Bertha Pramuditya Setya Ningtias (Agronomy), Patricia Angelina Emilia Simarmata (Forestry), Danya Putri Dw (Development Economics), Aditya Bayu Kurniawan (Sociology), Reka Aldilana Ramadhan (Management), and Patrik Yoke Ardian (Development Economics).
The socialization and construction of the Rocket Stove involved village officials, the Campang Raya community, and Campang Raya Community Service (KKN) students. All parties played an active role in supporting the implementation of the activity, from the preparation stage to the official inauguration of the Rocket Stove as a shared facility.
In this activity, KKN students acted as resource persons and facilitators, delivering material directly to the community. The material covered an introduction to the Rocket Stove, its functions and advantages, the types of waste that can and cannot be burned, the fuel used, and post-burn cleanup procedures.
The series of activities began with site preparation and the construction of a Rocket Stove, a collaborative effort between Campang Raya Community Service Program students from LK 1 and LK 2 and the local community. The Rocket Stove construction process took two days, followed by refinements and the installation of information boards and banners as educational materials.
The activity then continued with a live on-site socialization and demonstration of the Rocket Stove’s use. The public was given the opportunity to observe and understand the smoke-free waste combustion process and the benefits of using this device.
The results of this activity demonstrated that the Roket Stove has the potential to be a more environmentally friendly means of managing household waste. The community gained new knowledge and understanding about how to reduce air pollution and the importance of maintaining a clean environment.
In addition to the main activities, the University of Lampung KKN students also provide mentoring, documentation, and further education regarding waste management and the importance of the sustainable use of the Rocket Stove as a shared facility.
The community response to this program has been very positive. The community welcomed the Roket Stove and demonstrated high enthusiasm from the preparation stage through the inauguration. Their support is evident in their active involvement in the construction and maintenance of the facility.
In line with this, the University of Lampung Community Service (KKN) students hope that the inaugurated Roket Stove will be optimally utilized, jointly maintained, and provide long-term benefits to the Campang Raya Village community by reducing waste accumulation and creating a cleaner and healthier environment.
