(Unila): The University of Lampung (Unila) inaugurated the Orchid Greenhouse as part of its 60th anniversary celebrations. The inauguration took place on Wednesday, September 10th, 2025, after an orchid cultivation workshop held in the second-floor meeting room of the Unila Rectorate.
The establishment of the Orchid Greenhouse was initiated by the Unila Institute for Research and Community Service (LPPM) together with the Indonesian Orchid Association, better known as Pecinta Anggrek Indonesia (PAI). The facility will serve as a center for conservation, research, and education for students and the general public.
The inauguration ceremony was marked by the signing and ribbon cutting by the Rector of Unila, Prof. Dr. Ir. Lusmeilia Afriani, D.E.A., IPM., ASEAN Eng., accompanied by the Vice Dean for Finance and General Affairs of the Faculty of Agriculture, Dr. Qadar Hasani, S.Pi., M.Si., PAI administrators, and the Unila Women’s Association.
In her speech, the Rector expressed her hope that this inauguration would be an important step for the development of orchids in Lampung.
“This greenhouse will be a place for orchid conservation, open to the general public, not only students, and will be the first reference for anyone who wants to learn how to cultivate orchids,” said the Rector.
Additionally, the Rector expressed the hope that the Orchid Greenhouse would have a meaning beyond just being a plant collection facility. “The hope is that this Orchid Greenhouse will not only be a collection site but also a learning center.” [Gandhi Irawan]
