(Unila): Prof. Karomani, the Rector of the University of Lampung (Unila), initiated an environmental preservation, planting the tree on the edge of Unila’s pond, followed by watering it.

The event was also attended by Mrs. Eva Dwiana, the mayor of Bandarlampung city, the head of the forest protection and water management center, Way Seputih Way Sekampung, and top Unila officials.

Prof. Sukohar, vice rector for general affairs and finance, who was also in charge of the event, expressed sincere gratitude to the mayor for the financial support of Unila building constructions, i.e., buildings of state university hospital (RSPTN), the Faculty of Engineering, and the Faculty of Law.

He reported that RSPTN has been occupied to treat approximately 40 Covid-19 patients. Unila has revealed a number of policies and programs to support Greenmetric programs such as, zero plastic, on-campus transportation with integrated terminals, integrated waste management and raw water, arboretum parks, hygiene sweeper teams, and webometric websites.

Prof Sukohar was also very grateful to the head of the forest protection and water management center, Way Seputih Way Sekampung, for the donation of 1,500 miscellaneous species of trees.

He said that the environmental preservation was simultaneously done with the series of Unila’s 56th anniversary initiated by SDGs centre Unila in collaboration with the student association of Unila Forestry Study Program (Himasylva), the Faculty of Agriculture.

Eva Dwiana, on behalf of Bandarlampung government, expressed gratitude and appreciated Unila who has made contributions to environmental preservation of Bandarlampung city. According to Eva, the event is necessary to maintain and restore land conditions.

She encouraged Bandarlampung residents to preserve environment, protecting trees so that flood can be minimized. Drainage restoration is also set to be made to prevent the city from being drowned out by flood.

Prof. Karomani fully supported the mayor’s plan to expand green open spaces in Bandarlampung by maintaining the green environment at Unila. Unila is known for some huge old trees as the symbol of Unila’s commitment to preserve environment.

Unila in the 56th anniversary also vociferously organized activities with respect to GreenMetric, one of which is ‘Unila’s Bloom’, which was initiated by the Unila women’s union. Not only is the pond surrounded with shady trees, but it should be full of beautiful flowers to promote a tourism destination particularly for the surrounding community.

This is in line with the 15th goal of the SDGs to maintain land ecosystems and is expected to lead to better improvement of air quality and freshness of Unila environment, which in turn improves the Unila ranking of UiGreenMetric. [PR Team]
