(Unila): The University of Lampung (henceforth Unila) has officially opened the Lampung Language Education Study Program.
The program enrollment is to commence in the upcoming academic year 2021/2022 based on the Decree of the Minister of Education and Culture of the Republic of Indonesia Number 30/E/0/2021 concerning the permit to open the Lampung Language Education Study Program for the Undergraduate Degree at the University of Lampung dated February 10, 2021.
The Vice Dean for Academic Affairs and Cooperation, Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (henceforth FKIP) Unila, Dr Sunyono, M.Sc., said that his team would strive for new student admissions to the new Study Program through the SNMPTN (State University National Admission Selection) and SBMPTN (State University Entrance Test) channels.
“In the first year 2021, FKIP Unila has set a capacity of 70 prospective students”, said Sunyono, Saturday, February 13, 2021.
To realize this, his team continues to coordinate with the Rector, Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs, and the admission team. Apart from the campus, said Sunyono, his team will collaborate with community leaders, practitioners, and traditional Lampung elders to discuss and accommodate aspirations as the basis for preparing an appropriate curriculum.
The Department of Language and Arts Education, FKIP Unila, has taken advantages of Lampung language practitioners to actively take part as teaching staff at the program.
Sunyono expressed his deep gratitude to the Rector of the University of Lampung, Prof. Karomani, for his highly committing to the establishment of the program. The Rector has considerably eased to have the minister’s permit issued after fourteen year-awaited permit to open the program.
Sunyono and the team, chaired by Dr Farida Ariyani, M.Pd., were very proud that their long-struggling to open the program has finally come true. According to him, the success was also due to efforts, supports, and assistance from a number of stakeholders, e.g., the Governor of Lampung, among others.
He also committed to preserving the Lampung language in Lampung Province, Bumi Ruwa Jurai. “I need to thank the Rector of Unila, as well as other parties for making the program possible”, said the lecturer of the Chemistry Education Study Program FKIP Unila.
Not only is the program to preserve the culture of Lampung, but it is also aimed at meeting the need of competent Lampung language teachers. Graduates of the study program can also pursue a career as observers or researchers of Lampung language and culture in favour of preserving and maintaining Lampung indigenous culture and language as Lampung Province’s pride.
Meanwhile, the Rector of the University of Lampung, Prof. Karomani, said that the opening of the Lampung Language Education Study Program was Unila’s firm commitment to Lampung language maintenance and development.
“Unila itself also has a research centre with respect to Lampung cultural maintenance. Thus, academicians, higher education institutions, industries, including the tourism industry, society and the government are expected to collaborate to maintain and develop Lampung culture”, said Karomani.
According to him, Unila, in collaboration with the local government, has initiated movie making of a national Lampung hero as a role model for character education related to heroic values. The movie is also expected to introduce the Lampung’s tourist and cultural destinations to the national and international audience. [PR Team]
