(Unila): The Rektor of the University of Lampung (Unila) Prof. Dr. Ir. Lusmeilia Afriani, D.E.A., IPM., ASEAN Eng., received an audience visit from the Unila Zakat Collection Unit (UPZ) chaired by Prof. Dr. Ir. Wan Abbas Zakaria, MS, on Friday, February 20, 2026.
The presence of UPZ representatives is a manifestation of Unila’s commitment to supporting the management of zakat, infaq, and alms in a professional, trustworthy manner, and in accordance with sharia provisions and applicable regulations.
The duties and functions of UPZ are to collect, manage, and distribute zakat, infak, and alms funds from the Unila academic community, so that they can provide broad benefits, especially for the extended Unila family and communities in need.
In her remarks, the Rektor appealed to and invited all Unila residents, including lecturers, educational staff, leaders, and all elements of the academic community, to distribute their zakat, infak, and alms through the Unila UPZ.
Let us make this UPZ a place for togetherness in sharing, strengthening brotherhood, and bringing blessings to the campus environment that we love.
“We hope that as many Unila residents as possible who are obligated to pay zakat or wish to donate can channel their donations through this UPZ, so that the benefits will be returned to our campus residents who are in need,” She said.
Prof. Wan Abbas Zakaria also said that as the first program at Unila, the campus will immediately conduct massive outreach at the university, faculty, and small unit levels.
The UPZ has two flagship programs: the collection and distribution of ZIS. ZIS collection is carried out through salary deductions from the UPZ Unila zakat volunteer academic community, including lecturers, alumni, students, and education staff.
Meanwhile, ZIS distribution is given to asnaf with priority given to students, in the form of UKT payment assistance, scholarships, and various other forms of assistance to support the continuity of education.
It is hoped that the presence of the Unila UPZ will bring benefits, blessings, and become a continuous charity, strengthening the culture of caring and social solidarity within the Unila community. [Muzamil Kakar]
