(Unila): UPT Lampung University Library (Unila) in collaboration with the Unila Research and Community Service Center (LPPM) held a workshop with the theme “Empowering Quality Research Paper Using Elsevier’s ScienceDirect” virtually via zoom meeting, Thursday, January 25, 2024.
The webinar aims to equip participants with the knowledge and skills required to access ScienceDirect effectively, hopping that the research output of the Unila library achieves the target of at least Q-2 at Scopus or S-2 at Sinta.
Elsevier’s ScienceDirect, the products of which have been implemented, is one of the main pillars in the realm of scientific communication, providing a variety of quality literacy resources for researchers and scientists throughout the world.
In the same occasion, head of the research and community service center (LPPM) Unila, Dr. Habibullah Jimad, reported that Unila has made a large investment to improve the quality of research to meet IKU 5 where every single lecturer is obliged to publish his or her research findings in both national and international publications.
There have been 2,650 articles for the last three years reaching the standard value of KPI 5. Unila’s research funding amounts to IDR 43 billion in total, with 931 research titles having the opportunity to produce quality published articles.
Habibullah Jimad also believes that Unila should be a world-class university as indicated by increasing numbers of graduates being accepted in the world of work and recognizing their academic reputation worldwide.
“Unila is among 47 universities in Indonesia included in the independent cluster. He asked the presenter, Johan Jang to share tips for improving academic reputation through quality of publications,” he said.
Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, Dr. Suripto Dwi Yuwono, opened the webinar which was attended by 400 participants and simultaneously presented his paper with the topic “Empowering Quality Research Paper using Elsevier’s ScienceDirect”.
He described the strategies to boost lecturers’ research and scientific publications among others by holding training and workshops, allocating research and community service funds, providing journal facilities, providing incentives for scientific publications, and establishing lecturers’ scientific forums.
The webinar also presented the speaker from Elsevier Asia Pacific, Dr. Johan Jang, a customer consultant who has extensive experience in supporting the research community. The speaker explains strategies and best practices to improve the quality of research papers, including how to effectively access ScienceDirect in the research process.
Dr. Johan Jang shares case studies and practical examples that illustrate how optimal use of ScienceDirect can support the writing of quality research papers.
Webinar participants were very enthusiastic and provided positive feedback regarding the success of the event in providing an in-depth understanding of using Elsevier’s ScienceDirect.
The success of the webinar was indicated by high interest in efforts to improve research skills among academics and researchers. The webinar continues to strengthen the role of libraries as important centers of knowledge and resources for the academic community.
