(Unila): The Technical Implementation Unit of Cooperation Development and International Office (UPT PKLI) of the University of Lampung held a ‘Summer Course’ in Pesawaran District this year. The activity brought “Lampung Coastal Life 2019” as the theme of this year.

At least four international students participated in this program as well as three students who were members of the nation’s student exchange (Permata) program.

They were Abed Abdullah Saleh Rageh from Yemen, Yahia Khalil Ibrahim Taha, and Mohamed Zyad Alshurafa from Palestine, and Murayama Kento from Japan. Meanwhile, the Permata students were Meutia, Putri Martini, and Wawan.

To assist the students during the program, they were be accompanied by PKLI representatives, namely Dara Helmasena, Nidia Putri, Arif Susanto, and Gigih Yora Pratama.

The series of activities took place for a couple of days. It was started from Saturday to Sunday (12-13/10/2019). The Pier 4 Ketapang became their meeting point. The first day activities were about having a trip to the Dive Center, planting mangroves, checking in at the Dive Center, conducting opening ceremony after break time, and ended with an education session from Unila.

While on the second day, Sunday (10/13/2019), starting with breakfast, a trip to the coral transplantation and snorkeling spot, a trip to the Dive Center, break and check out from the Dive Center, travel to Pier 4 Ketapang.

Furthermore, the students learned how to plant mangroves, coral transplantation, and installation in a couple of days. These planting activities were part of the Summer Course 2019 Program. This activity also involved the representatives of the Research and Development Center of LP2M Unila, Endang Linirin Widiastuti, Ph.D., and
Novriadi, M.Si.

The Summer Course, then, was expected to foster a culture of interdisciplinary scientific cooperation in a multicultural atmosphere to introduce it to the world community, including increasing the number of international students who continued their studies and obtain degrees at Unila.
