(Unila): The University of Lampung (Unila) hosted Tapak Suci International Open 2019 tournament. The event was opened by Rector of Unila, Prof. Karomani, at the Unila Multipurpose Building, Monday (12/02/2019). Lampung Provincial Government, KONI Lampung, and representatives of the Indonesian Pencak Silat Association (IPSI) also
attended this event.

Karomani, in his remarks, stated that through this activity, Unila invited all people to continue preserving our cultural heritage, including this traditional martial arts. He believed that this sport branch may also establish someone’s character development.

Like the current trend, Pencak Silat has been learned globally. Karomani expressed that it was an honor for Unila to be the host of the tournament this recent year. Also, this kind of event added value to Unila quality.

Furthermore, in a report by the Chief Executive of the Tapak Suci International Open 2019, Hendri Wahyu Nugroho, said that the theme of the event was “Brave to Break the Limit.” He explained that the tournament aimed to strengthen a friendship across the nation. He added, it also became a platform for all qualified generation to compete in this rigorous selection fairly.

Moreover, the number of participants reached up to 200 athletes consisting of both national contingents from the tip of Sumatra, Java, to Sulawesi as well as international contingents from Madagascar, Philippines, Thailand, and Palestine.

The General Secretary of Tapak Suci, H. Fanan Hasanudin, on the same occasion added, this activity was a means of preparing the excellence of future generations.

Tapak Suci was remarked as the only sports branch that had never been absent from being a champion representing Indonesia on the world stage. Last year, Tapak Suci attained number of achievements, such as 4 times as a Champion at the Sea Games, 4 times as a Champion at PON, and 5 times as the World Champion. “Medals at the international level can never be separated from the contribution of Tapak Suci achievements,” said Fanan.
