(Unila): Student Executive Board of the University of Lampung (BEM Unila) held a public dialogue at the Multipurpose Building (GSG) of Unila on Tuesday (3/19/2019). The raising theme was “Opportunities and Challenges of the Young Generation to Face the Industrial Revolution 4.0”.

The committee at this event presented several distinguished speakers. They were Ministerial Staff for Infrastructure Sector Affairs at Menristekdikti, Ir. Hari Purwanto, M.Sc., DIC.

Presidential Staff for Communication Affairs, Adita Irawati; Head of Information, Communication, and Statistic, Ir. Achmad Chrisna Putra NR., M.EP.; as well as Ministerial Staff of Menkominfo for Communication and Information Law, Prof. Henry Subiakto, SH., MA.

Furthermore, Vice Rector for PKTIK Unila, Prof. Dr. Mahatma Kufepaksi, M.Sc.; Dean of FEB, Prof. Dr. Hi. Satria Bangsawan, S.E., M.Sc., and Director of Information and Communication, Septiana Tangkary, M.M., also presented in that event.

Prof. Mahatma in his remarks said, human dependence on technology is currently high. The results showed that the duration of one sleep was shorter than the length of time he used on a mobile phone. A woman is more often as she becomes an active user on social media than a man.

Moreover, social media addiction rates are higher than smoking dependence lately. “The average duration of a person in online is now longer than in offline. This can be one of the bad effects that have changed the socio-economic life for the Indonesian people,” he said.

On the other hand, the dependence order, also creates a high efficiency in the technology realm. For example, it provides an ease and inexpensive rates for production cost as well as raises competitiveness among stakeholders. As a result, many companies went bankrupt.

In the next 50 years, it is predicted that approximately 35% of the work field will be lost and the unemployment rate in Indonesia will increase. Ten years later around 75% of the work is lost and 52.6 jobs will be replaced by the digital systems.

Apart from having a negative impact, increasingly advanced technological developments have had a positive influence. All information can be accessed fast and easily as the advanced technology development exists.

“The average duration of a person in online is now longer than in offline. This can be one of the bad effects that have changed the socio-economic life for the Indonesian people,” he said.

In addition, Prof. Satria Bangsawan conveyed, the young generation is recently encountering opportunities and challenges of the industrial revolution 4.0. This is what is remarked by the big data and the information technology.

Hence, FEB Unila has been adjusting to this demand for several years. One of the concerns is forming the mindset of alumni to no longer looking for a job but creating jobs. “They are invited to become digital-based entrepreneurs through the establishment of our Teaching Factory,” he enclosed.
