(Unila): Communities and institutions might act as Pioneer and Reporter (2P). Institutions play a role as pioneers in the field of child protection by encouraging the establishment of protection center for women and children. The community, meanwhile, may take part as a reporter as to fight the violation cases against children.
This was conveyed by the Commissioner for Social and Child Affairs in the Emergency Situation of the Indonesian Child Protection Commission (KPAI), Susianah Affandy, in the Public Lecture entitled “Efforts of the Regional Governments to Provide Protection to Women and Children Victims of Violence” held at the Auditorium of Prof. Abdulkadir Muhammad, S.H., Faculty of Law, University of Lampung, Tuesday (05/03/2019).
Susianah said, there are many factors why violence often occurs especially towards children. One of them, the act of violence against children is carried out by the closest person.
“The current trend depicts that people who are supposed to protect children nowadays often become the perpetrators of violence. Children are considered as weak and property,” she said.
In addition, she explained, this was a challenge for the Faculty of Law of the University of Lampung to be able to encourage local governments to prioritize issues of protection for women and children from becoming victims of violence as to integrate it into some development policies as well as to implement them into development programs.
This public lecture, which was organized by the Administration Law Division of the Faculty of Law, Unila, was attended by hundreds of students.
It is hoped that this activity can increase students’ knowledge of the principle aspects of women and children’ protection and furthermorethe message can be delivered to family members and the surrounding community regarding the importance aspects of protection for women and children.[PR Team]
