(Unila): Students from the Faculty of Agriculture (FP), the University of Lampung (Unila) were successful with second place in the “Non-Rice” Local Food-Made Food Contest, Lampung Begawi 2023, sponsored by Bank Indonesia from May 1 to May 12, 2023.

Tessa Charlene Harmony, the student majoring agribusiness at the Faculty of Agriculture, successfully transformed root-based dishes into desserts and snacks. Tessa said that her food preparation was inspired by her awareness of the requirements of the millennial generation, which frequently skips breakfast in favor of junk food and fast food.

She wished to create nutritious breakfast and snack foods especially made from tubers as described during her interview with the Unila website team. Three kinds of food were prepared for the competition: two kinds of desserts and one snack.

The initial culinary item takes the form of potato pudding with caramel sauce, the composition of which is made of potatoes and seaweed jelly as the former is rich in carbohydrates, and the latter contains fiber, which is good for digestion as she explained to the team.

The second culinary item is spin cassava with sambal jutek, composed of cassava and lamb chilies. Cassava known for a carbohydrate source is inexpensive and easy to find, while lamb chili provides a spicy flavor that is suitable for making healthy snacks.

The final food item is the biffle (ubi waffle) with taro ice cream, which is prepared from purple sweet potato commonly used to make crepes, and purple potatoes to make ice cream.

These sorts of foods are deemed to be healthy foods for everyone from different ages as they are made with no additives or synthetic food colors. These products the materials of which are made of local food ingredients may be consumed as alternatives of rice and are expected to be accepted by all age groups, either children or seniors.
