(Unila): In mid-May, Jodi Chaniago, a student in the Dance Arts Education Study Program, the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP) of Lampung University (Unila), won the Muslim Fashion Design Competition conducted as part of the Lampung Begawi 2023 series of events.

Lampung Begawi is a partnership between Bank Indonesia and the Provincial Government of Lampung to aid the Proudly Made in Indonesia National Movement.

In the competition with the theme “Growing and Stable with Digitalization, Entrepreneurship, and MSMEs,” Jodi presented Muslim fashion designs inspired by the traditional fabric of West Lampung, namely Celugam.

Celugam is a fabric-made from triangular sections of red, orange, black, and white fabric. This fabric has significant historical and cultural significance for the Bumi Sekala Bekhak people of West Lampung.

Carrying the title “Jelita Wastra Lambar,” Jodi endeavored to elevate the concept of typical Celugam cloth and corresponding patterned batik, as well as coffee, implying that the Earth Ruwa Jurai is rich in an assortment of distinctive textiles and coffee.

Jodi acknowledged that he was ecstatic and honored to have won this competition. The competition provided him with numerous new insights and experiences regarding Muslim fashion design. In addition, he had the chance to meet renowned designers in Lampung who could provide him with insight and inspiration.

He was so excited and enthused about competing in this competition that he can step from a novice to a professional designer compete. He has been interested in the realm of design since elementary school.

He also enjoys drawing and frequently takes part art competitions, including calligraphy and illustrated stories. Since the third year of junior high school, he has committed himself to the field of design and continues to refine his abilities.

His initial intention was to major in fashion design, but it was abandoned due mainly to distance and cost constraints. He was very grateful for winning first place. He did not think that he was able to contend with other experienced designers. [PR Team]
