(Unila): Corn is one of the leading commodities from Lampung Province. Muara Putih village, Natar District, is one of the corn producing areas where corn farmers commonly sell their crops in the forms of raw materials due to their lack of awareness of numerous corn-made products.

This circumstance has motivated Unila students attending field practice in the village to produce corn coffee (koja) as a local innovation, Saturday, January 13, 2024. The innovation aims to create a new product from corn at a higher selling price.

The corn coffee making was collaboratively carried out with the residents of Mujimulyo and was well welcomed by the local community. The proces of Koja runs as follows. The corn is first steamed until cooked.

Once cooked, the corn and coffee are then roasted and ground simultaneously. In the final stage, the ground corn coffee is packaged with attractive, contemporary packaging.

The head of the village in which the Unila students were attending their field work believes that the innovation of koja coffee contributes to real benefits for the community.

The innovation is expected to have an impact on increasing production, processing, marketing and diversification of coffee and corn products. The innovation of corn coffee by utilizing local agricultural products results in increasing local MSME innovation. [PR Team]
