(Unila): The Chemistry Study Program at the University of Lampung’s (Unila) Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA) has received worldwide accreditation from the Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC).
FMIPA Unila’s Chemistry Study Program is the first outside of Java to be accredited by the international organisation situated in Cambridge, London, England.
“On June 6, 2022, the Unila FMIPA Chemistry Study Program was internationally accredited based on the results of the plenary session conducted by the RSC team,” said Priyambodo, M.Sc., Head of the Unila LP3M National and International Accreditation Center, in an interview in his office on Thursday 30 June 2022.
He stated that the international accreditation procedure began with registration, followed by a field assessment at Unila on November 10, 2021, and a plenary conference at a later date.
“At the time, the RSC team has given me some feedbacks to have the work accomplished. Alhamdulillah, the team worked very quickly that the needed papers and records were sorted out and shortly sent them to the RSC,” he said.
According to Priyambodo, the achievement of international accreditation was made possible by the strong cooperation of all parties participating in the accreditation process at the department, faculty, and university levels.
According to him, the Chemistry Study Program has a solid foundation, beginning with the quality of human resources, management, facilities, and the academic community’s tridharma (three pillars) of higher education.
According to him, the Chemistry Study Program already has an optimal ratio of doctoral and professorial instructors and is fruitful in terms of international journal publications. Lecturers in the Chemistry Study Program are also in the forefront of obtaining research grants on a national and worldwide scale.
Belmawa Kemendikbudristek previously provided Chemistry FMIPA Unila with an international facilitation grant, he explained.
Furthermore, according to Priyambodo, the network of Chemistry Study Program with top national universities particularly with RSC accreditation and RSC assessors contributes to the success in attaining international accreditation. This facilitates the Chemistry Study Program’s adoption of the stages to attain international accreditation.
According to Priyambodo, the ranks in the Chemistry Study Program are also adaptable in responding to numerous policy changes from the centre, such as promptly adjusting new rules connected to international accreditation and the like.
“The Chemistry Study Program team is working very hard, frequently meeting with the team members until midnight, and allowing the team for mutual cooperation.
“The Chemistry Study Programme has strong team in that it is solid and is supported with human resources that are capable of accomplishing the work according to their job descriptions” he explained.
Priyambodo stated the achievement of international accreditation from the RSC meets the achievement of the 8th Key Performance Indicator (IKU), namely the International Standard Study Program.
“International accreditation refers to outcome-based, according to the Ministry of Education and Culture’s policy. Furthermore, the curriculum held by a study programme or department must be based on learning outcomes in order to establish a profile of graduates”.
He stated that in 2021, 15 study programmes would be registered for international accreditation, and that they have been filed this year and are just awaiting the visiting schedule.
He hopes to register 15 more study programmes this year to participate in international accreditation, so that by 2023, Unila will have 30 study programmes that are internationally accredited.
“Hopefully, what our friends in the Chemistry Study Program have accomplished will be an encouragement for other study programmes and departments, especially those who are in the process of submitting and waiting for the field visitation procedure,” he said. [PR Team]
