(Unila): After conducted a workshop entitled “Strengthening the Innovation System to Encourage Regional Competitiveness, University of Lampung (Unila) and the Central Lampung District Government (Pemkab Lamteng) ratified a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on the development of cassava research on the same day.

The agenda took place in the Rectorate Main Hall 2nd floor, Tuesday (02/19/2019). Rector of Unila, Prof. Hasriadi Mat Akin, in his remarks said, “Unila has been given a mandate to carry out an independent research, and recently focusing on developing research and innovation for cassava.

Hasriadi emphasized that research cooperation in this realm is enormously strategic as Lampung is one of the largest provinces for cassava producers in Indonesia. “In addition to conducting research in various fields, Unila declared as the center of the cassava research development as to overcome miscellaneous challenges related to cassava,” he added.

In line with the Rector, The Regent of Central Lampung, Loekman Djoyosoemarto explained, Central Lampung is a district that is dominated by farmers. Cassava is the most widely produced crop in Central Lampung.

As a guest speaker at the workshop Innovation-Based on Regional Excellence, Loekman also said that the huge potential of cassava production is one of the potentials for the development of the Regional Innovation System (SIDa) in the local district.

Thus, the productivity has been continued and sustained as to maintain the production quality and to increase global competitiveness with foreign products.[PR Team]
