(Unila): The University of Lampung (Unila) achieved two world rankings revealed by the Times Higher Education (THE) Impact Rankings 2021 and the Scimago Institution Ranking (SIR).
Based on THE Impact Rankings 2021, Unila appears in the top 601-800 ranking position out of 1,115 best universities in the world.
In Indonesia, Unila appears in the top 14 ranking position according to the version of THE Impact Rankings 2021. The ranking of THE Impact Ranking is assessed according to 17 performance indicators of SDGs goals.
The indicators are based on the aspects of stewardship, research, and outreach. “I am so grateful for this achievement. The first time Unila achieves the world ranking version of THE Impact Rankings 2021,” said Sunarso, Deputy Chancellor for Planning, Cooperation, and ICT, launching the Unila website, Tuesday, April 27 2021.
Not only did Unila achieve THE Impact Rankings 2021, but it also succeeded to reach a rank from the Scimago Institution Ranking (SIR).
Unila currently achieves the top 10 best universities in Indonesia and it appears in the 715 ranking position of the world university rankings.
The ranking was based on Scimago, a rating agency based in Spain that gives an assessment to universities and research institutions from around the world.
The Scimago Institution Ranking assessment is based on three performance indicators, i.e., research, innovation, and social activities of a university or research institution.
“Scimago has something to do with Scopus, grouping journals according to Q1, Q2, Q3, and Q4, and it also assess research impact, innovation reputation, and social activities of a university,” said Suharso.
With respect to the accomplishment of two world ranking achievements revealed by international rating agencies, he encourages Unila lecturers to continue to advance and publish their research either in national or international journals.
He suggests that research budget needs to be increased to boost both the quantity and quality of the publications.
“This year I ask for extra research fund, approximately IDR 4.5 billion, from last year’s budget, IDR 28 billion, which was only sufficient to cover research for 500 lecturers, to IDR 32.5 billion this current year” he said.
This extra budget will necessarily fund a half of Unila’s lecturers out of approximately 1,400 lecturers in total. [PR Team]
