(Unila): Prof. Lusmeilia Afriani and Dr. Suripto Dwi Yuwono, Rector and Vice Rector for Academic Affairs the University of Lampung (Unila) respectively, made a visit to the Ferdinand-Braun-Institut (FBH) and the Indonesian Embassy in Berlin Germany.

Dr. Suripto reported that the visit was part of the 2024 Indonesia – Germany program of semiconductor education roadshow, which was carried out by the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia (KBRI) in Berlin for almost a week.

Ferdinand-Braun-Institut is primarily concerned with research applying high-frequency electronics, photonics, and quantum physics. FBH conducts research and develops electronic components, modules, electronic systems, as well as optics on the basis of compound semiconductors.

Unila’s visit along with 17 other Indonesian delegates to FHB was warmly welcomed by Prof Patrick Scheele and his staff.

The agenda was to sign a letter of intent (LOI) between the Indonesian government and FBH regarding cooperation in the field of semiconductor education and research and the Unila delegation to the Indonesian Embassy in Berlin was to attend the presentation of the action plan and the steps of the semiconductor education cooperation between Indonesia and Germany and the dissemination of the roadshow report of developing Indonesia semiconductor research ecosystem by the Directorate of Research Facility (LPDP).

The target of the cooperation has been to result in 500 semiconductor experts and scholars in Indonesia within five years which will be achieved through several schemes, such as teaching collaboration for the level of undergraduate, master and doctoral degrees, cooperation with the ausbildung system, uni to uni training programs and joint/double degree university to uni.

Meanwhile, the dissemination presentation delivered by the Indonesian Embassy in Berlin regarding the proposed plan to build the “Indonesian Semiconductor Ecosystem” in 2025-2029 supported by LPDP focused on scholarships and the Sustainable Development Research Funding Program (PRPB): Semiconductors.

Semiconductor scholarships are especially offered for undergraduate and master degrees, while PRPB is awarded for the Professor Grant program with four pillars of funding, namely research, scholarships, postdoctoral, and start-ups. In addition, the semiconductor scholarship business model and the main scenario of the semiconductor scholarship by LPDP were also discussed. [PR Team]
