(Unila): The student team from the University of Lampung (Unila) took home the gold medal in the social science division of the World Sciences, Environmental, and Engineering Competition (WSEEC), which was held both online and offline in June and July 2022 by the Indonesian Young Scientists Association (IYSA).
The team was chaired by Winda Pitriani Parhamah with the team members Vany Aswandi, Ulfa Novitasari, Imroah Laina Kresno Mukti, and Dinda Uqnul Amalia under a lecturer lecturer supervision, Sumargono.
The concept of creating the Smalry application was to raise awareness of the history of the local heroes in Lampung.
Almost all of students were found to have been are unaware of the background of the native heroes of Lampung. For example, H. Komarudin street, the one acknowledged as a hero from Lampung, and the H Komarudin street located very close to Unila, was named after his name, but he is widely recognized by students as an ordinary people instead of a hero. Similarly, Batin Mangunan is acknowledged as a hero from Tanggamus, Lampung but was recognized by many students simply the name of a hospital or a street.
the Smalry application was developed on the basis of ApkStory 3 and Apk Builder Pro. Canva and Photoshop are also used in the app design. The Smalry programme provides users with various contents, such as, heroes, video lessons on their history, reviews, and author biographies.
The information of history and footage of our heroes could be accessed through journals, previous research, and other publication sources.
The Smalry application development process started in April 2022 and was finished in June. According the team, collecting information about the heroes from Lampung was more difficult than creating the application.
The application was the trialed with a number of students at YP Unila High School. Prior to introducing the capabilities and applications of the Smalry app, the pretest was given to the students. It dealt with the background of the Lampung heroes.
The application was introduced to the students and how it collected the data of the background of the heroes from Lampung. Once the introduction of making use of the application was finished, the students were given the post test in the form of review of the application.
The results of the post test showed that the students’ knowledge of the heroes from Lampung significantly improved. The manuscript with respect to the Smalry: Application of Local History Education in Growing Awareness of Students’ History as a Reservation Conservation Effort, was sent to journal for publication.
The finding of the investigation was presented online via Zoom programme. The Unila team’s efforts to highlight the history of lesser-known local heroes in Lampung were praised by the jury from various different nations.
The recommendation from judges is that the application needs minor revisions prior to having the article published in academic journals and uploaded in the Google Play Store.
