(Unila): The University of Lampung and MPR RI Research Institute support the improvement of law enforcement in Indonesia. It is realized by conducting group discussion forum held at the Horizon Hotel, Bandarlampung, Thursday (7/18/2019).

The discussion carried two headings namely “Law Enforcement in the Judicial System to Enforce Judicial Law” and “Consolidation of Law Enforcement Agencies in the Judicial System”.

The activity was attended by the head, vice-head, and members of the People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR RI) Research Institute, Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs of Unila, Prof. Bujang Rahman, vice-dean for academic and cooperation of Faculty of Law (FH) Unila.

Bujang, in his remarks, revealed that the theme discussed at the FGD this time was very strategic issue because it was related to legal justice in this country which is quite challenging to be implemented. Moreover, Indonesia is a large country both in geographical and diversity perspective.

“I think the issue of legal justice is not only related to the empirical facts but it is probably one of the senses that can be influenced from various perspectives both social, ethnic, religious, and others,” he said.

There in lies the importance of today’s FGD on how the law becomes an instrument that can protect the differences that exist in our state.

The Head of MPR RI Research Institute, Ir. Rully Chairul Azwar, M.Sc., IPU, who officially opened the FGD, revealed that sense of justice was important because until these days the reports in law remain selective, sharp downward but blunt upward laws and so does on law criminalization.

He continued, “Perhaps, there are such things that have not reached the community related to the sense of justice, even though it has been long pursued through law enforcement efforts. The duty of the State in law is very extraordinary from the founding fathers set forth in the Pancasila Pillar 2 and 5.”

“A sense of justice is a demand in ideology because it is stated in the pillar of 2 out of 5 that mandate justice and are listed in the opening of the 1945 paragraph 2,” said Rully.

Through the FGD, he hopes to find out the strategic ways to solve the problems on law enforcement and the judicial system which then produces recommendations for the leadership of the Indonesian MPR. These brilliant ideas will be used as material for leaders to consult with other state institutions and the president.

The event was attended by academics from several universities and representatives from the Legal Aid Institute in Bandarlampung. The agenda were about material presentation from the speakers, discussion by the participants, responses from the MPR RI Research Institute, then closed by reading the formulation and recommendations.[]
