(Unila): Practitioner teaching is a program initiated by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research and Technology of the Republic of Indonesia so that university graduates are better prepared to enter the workforce.

This program encourages active collaboration between expert practitioners and champion lecturers in order to create a deep and meaningful exchange of knowledge and expertise between academicians in higher education and professionals in the world of work.

This collaboration is carried out in courses delivered in the classroom both offline and online.

In order to fulfill this goal, the Department of Biology invited Dr. Bayu Adjie, S.Si., M.Sc., Head of BRIN Biosystematics and Evolution Research as a Practitioner Lecturer for Low Plant Botany and Pteridology courses in the S-1 Biology Study Program offline.

This is done because it is felt that there is a gap between the expertise of graduates and the needs of the world of work so that the world of work often complains about the quality of university graduates.

Following up on these challenges, the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research and Technology initiated the Teaching Practitioner Program to encourage active collaboration between universities and the world of work, which was finally carried out by the Department of Biology FMIPA University of Lampung (Unila).

The collaboration carried out in the development of this course will increase the relevance of courses taught in higher education with the needs of the world of work.

In the future, through this program, the process of transferring knowledge and expertise from the world of work to the academic community can continue so that universities can produce graduates who are ready to work in the world of work.

The Department of Biology is ready to invite many other Practitioner Lecturers in the future for other courses both online and offline.

Dr. Bayu Adjie was originally a LIPI / BRIN community member who served as the 16th Head of the Purwodadi LIPI Plant Conservation Center, he was inaugurated and took his oath of office as Head of Purwodadi Botanical Garden on September 10, 2019 at the BRIN office which at that time was the LIPI Jakarta office.

He currently serves as the Head of Biosystematics and Evolution Research at BRIN. Hopefully this activity can be one of the good steps in improving the quality of graduates. [FMIPA_Release]
