(Unila: The University of Lampung (Unila) has graduated another international student. Yahia Taha, a Palestinian student, officially completed his master’s degree in mechanical engineering at Unila and attended the third graduation ceremony on Saturday, January 24, 2026.

Yahia was a 2023 student in the master’s degree program in mechanical engineering at Unila. Unila is no stranger to him, having previously pursued a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering and graduated in seven semesters as the best student.

This achievement earned him a scholarship from Unila to pursue a master’s degree. Yahia’s decision to pursue his studies at Unila was based on his interest in mechanical engineering and his confidence in the university academic quality.

Throughout his educational journey, he has come to appreciate Unila as a university that continues to develop and offers a supportive academic environment. “Since I have been here, I have seen Unila make significant progress. God willing, Unila can become one of the top five universities in Indonesia in the future,” he said.

Yahia felt a warm impression from the moment he first set foot in Lampung. He said he received a friendly welcome from the Unila academic community, especially from the International Office, which helped him adapt as a foreign student.

During his master’s degree, Yahia conducted research on hybrid power plant modeling, addressing the limited electricity supply in Gaza City, Palestine. The research, developed with his supervisor, aimed to find alternative ways to meet electricity needs.

During his studies, Yahia faced challenges due to the conflict in his country. With the support of his family and the guidance of his lecturers, he successfully completed his studies and graduated.

According to Yahia, the greatest support came from his parents and family, despite the difficult circumstances they faced due to the war. Furthermore, his academic supervisors were very helpful in developing his research ideas into good scientific paper.

When he was declared to have graduated with a very satisfactory grade, Yahia said he was grateful and accepted the results with full sincerity.

At the end of the interview, Yahia expressed his hope that Unila would continue to develop and be successful. He also gave a message to students not to give up easily in facing challenges.

“The road to success isn’t easy. We must strive, be confident, and believe that the best results come from Allah, the Most Gracious,” he concluded.

Yahia Taha’s story is proof that Unila is not only a place to study, but also a space for students from various countries to grow, work, strive, and make real contributions to humanity. [Muzamil Kakar]
