(Unila): In maintaining dignity and optimizing the supervisory function of judges, the Judicial Commission requires to work together with the community to carry out this function.

This was stated directly by the General Secretary of the Indonesian Judicial Commission, Tubagus Rismunandar Ruhijat, at the opening of the workshop entitled “The Role of Judicial Commission and Community in Increasing the Effectiveness of Judicial Behavior Supervision”.

The activity took place at the Prof. Auditorium Abdul Kadir Muhammad, SH., Faculty of Law, of the University of Lampung (FH Unila), Wednesday (6/26/2019).

“One example of supervision carried out by the Judicial Commission is repressive. It is an activity of receiving public reports that have an essential role in maintaining and upholding the dignity of judges,” he explained.

Then, he continued, in addition to building the synergies between the Judicial Commission and the community in encouraging a clean justice, it requires a platform like this workshop. It aims to improve public understanding regarding violations of the code of ethics, and judges’ conduct guidelines.

Dean of Faculty of Law Unila, Prof. Maroni revealed, the synergy and participation of the community in monitoring the behaviour of judges could assist the Judicial Commission to realize checks and balances in its functions related to judicial authority based on the 1945 Constitution.

“It is hoped that through the workshop and the synergy between the Judicial Commission and the community, we can realize the existence of an independent, clean judiciary, that has become as our ideal,” he added.

In the activity, there were also Members of the Indonesian Judicial Commission for Judicial Supervision and Investigation Affairs, Sukam Violetta, S.H., LL.M., as the guest speaker.
