“Mr. Nanang has been very instrumental as the Rector’s spokesperson. His role was crucial in building a healthy relationship between Unila and the mass media, as well as in formulating a credible and inspiring institutional narrative,” said Unila’s ViceRector for PKSI, Prof. Ayi Ahadiat.
Dr. Nanang Trenggono was born in Purwodadi on December 4, 1962. He served as an educator at Unila from 1989 until his death, serving as Associate Lecturer in the Department of Communication Studies, Faculty of Social and Political Sciences. Prof. Anna remembered the deceased as a nurturing person, generous with knowledge, and always spreading positive energy in facing various challenges. “He always reminded us that we are not just teachers, but educators. Never say you can’t or give up, as long as there is still an opportunity to try,” she recalled with emotion.
In addition to his academic career, Dr. Nanang was also widely known in the public sphere as a Commissioner of the General Election Commission (KPU) of Lampung Province for the 2008–2013 period, and was trusted to be the Chairman of the Lampung KPU for two consecutive periods, namely 2012–2014 and 2014–2019.
His expertise in the field of political communication led him to earn a doctorate from Padjadjaran University in 2009, after previously completing a Master’s in Communication Science from the University of Indonesia in 1995.
On campus, Dr. Nanang was a strategic liaison between university leadership and the public. His role as Unila’s spokesperson and public relations expert makes him a central figure in building a credible and communicative image for the institution.
“He never showed an attitude of feeling more senior. With a fatherly smile, he was always open and ready to guide anyone,” added Prof. Anna.
The passing of Dr. Nanang Trenggono leaves deep sorrow, especially for the academic community of FISIP and the University of Lampung as a whole. His humble personality, sharp thinking, and tireless dedication will always be remembered as a role model for future generations.
