(Unila): The University of Lampung (Unila) and Gadjah Mada University (UGM) establish cooperation as an attempt to develop human resource capacity building at the Unila RSPTN-IRC.

On Tuesday, May 24, 2022, the Faculty of Medicine, Unila signed cooperation agreement with the  Faculty of Medicine, Public Health, and Nursing, UGM in the KPTU Building, 2nd Floor, FK-KMK UGM, Yogyakarta.

The Unila delegation was headed by Prof. Ir. Suharso, Ph.D., Vice Chancellor for Planning, Cooperation, and ICT, and  accompanied  by the Dean of FK Unila Prof. Dyah Wulan SRW, PIC Fellowship dr. Novita Carolia, and Secretary of PIU Project dr. Intantri Kurniati.

Prof. Dyah Wulan, Dean of FK Unila, stated that the partnership was a part of the Higher Education for Technology and Innovation (HETI) Initiative Implementation Unit (PIU) RSPTN-IRC Unila project.

“The cooperation puts  emphasis on the preparation of capacity building fellowships in molecular and biotechnology laboratory research,” he stated.

In addition to partnering with UGM, the cooperation has also been made with the local  hospitals, particularly  in Bandar Lampung,  e.g., RSUAM and Palembang City, e.g., Unsri to strengthen the capacity of the Unila Hospital, according to Dyah.

Unila has also established technical regulations for the delivery of medical personnel later expected to receive training at partner universities.

According to Prof. Suharso, Vice Chancellor of PKTIK, an attempt has also been made to make  the HETI Project possible. It includes the improvement and development of soft skills and the quality of human resources, among others, doctors, medical and technical personnel who are in charge of the operations of the Unila RSPTN-IRC.

“The RSPTN’s development necessarily improves not only infrastructure but also the capacity of lecturers, doctors, medical professionals, and other technical personnel,” Suharso explained.

The HETI Project’s execution is particularly intended to build capacity building, which is scheduled to commence in June 2022.

The Asian Development Bank (ADB) grants 44 million US dollars (Rp. 600 billion) to Unila RSPT-IRC. The fund is used for physical development in the form of buildings and infrastructure, as well as the purchase of equipment to equip hospital laboratories and improve capacity building so that  a long-term environment should be made.

Suharso stated that the contract for the building of the Unila RSPTN and ADB is expected to extend until 2026. The Unila RSPTN is designed in such a way that the buildings are earthquake-resistant, and they  have  an energy-saving air circulation system, and are environmentally friendly so that patients feel comfortable and secure.
