(Unila): Students of the Community Service Program (KKN) of the University of Lampung (Unila) in Way Lunik 1 Village implemented a work program entitled Disaster Mitigation by creating a tsunami evacuation route map in the Way Lunik Village area.

Based on the results of field observations, Way Lunik Village is a coastal area that has the potential to be vulnerable to tsunami disasters due to its geographical location close to the sea.

This condition requires community preparedness in facing disasters that could threaten life and cause material losses.

Furthermore, the Way Lunik 1 Community Service Team also found that information regarding evacuation routes, assembly points, and safe locations was still limited and not presented in a format that was easily understood by the public. If left unaddressed, this could lead to confusion for the public in the event of an emergency.

In response to this problem, the Way Lunik 1 KKN team developed a program to create a tsunami evacuation route map as a preventive measure to increase community preparedness.

The activity began with a field survey to identify areas potentially affected by a tsunami and determine safe and easily accessible evacuation routes. The survey took into account geographic conditions, road access, residential density, locations with higher elevations, and relative distance from rivers and coastlines.

Next, the team collected regional data covering road infrastructure conditions, assembly points, and safe evacuation locations. This data was analyzed to form the basis for compiling a systematic and informative tsunami evacuation route map for Way Lunik Village.

By utilizing ArcGIS as the primary tool, the analyzed data was then systematically organized to create visual displays. These easy-to-understand visual displays ultimately enhance public understanding of map content.

The resulting map includes rescue routes, evacuation directions, and assembly points for the public to use in an emergency. The information is presented in a simple and easy-to-understand manner for effective use in emergency situations.

The final stage of the activity was a community outreach event for the entire Way Lunik Village community on February 7, 2026, at the Way Lunik Village Office. During this event, the team provided an understanding of self-rescue measures, the importance of disaster mitigation, and how to read and utilize evacuation route maps.

Through this outreach, it is hoped that the community will be able to increase their awareness and preparedness in facing the potential for a tsunami disaster.

In this way, KKN students not only provide community service but also contribute significantly to building a culture of disaster awareness in the coastal areas of Bandar Lampung City. [Muzamil Kakar]
