(Unila): Residents of Rejomulyo village, South Lampung, received training how to make eco-enzyme based-compost fertilizer guided by Dr. Ilim and assisted by the students from the Chemistry Department, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA), Unila.

She described eco-enzyme as a liquid resulting from the fermentation of organic materials, such as vegetable and fruit waste, water and palm sugar, as ingredients to make environmentally friendly compost with high quality.

It is easy and cheap to make eco-enzyme. The ingredients include 3 kg of vegetable or fruit waste, 10 liters of water, and 1 kg of melted palm sugar. They are first put into a bucket, stirred, closed tightly, and finally labeled with the manufacturing date.

The bucket should be stored in a shady and dry place and it needs to be opened and stirred again once a week for three months and finally the eco-enzyme is ready to use.

To make eco-enzyme-based compost, you need 100 ml of eco-enzyme, 8 kg of animal manure, and 2 kg of straw or rice husks. The ingredients are mixed on a tarpaulin, covered tightly, and stored in a shady and dry place.

Once every three days, the fertilizer must be turned over and the temperature measured. Once the temperature has reached 60 degrees Celsius or more, the fertilizer is mature and ready to use.

The activity participants were very enthusiastic about following the material and practice of making eco-enzyme based compost fertilizer. They hope to apply the knowledge they have gained to increase agricultural productivity in their village.

Apart from that, they appreciated the MBKM BKP Building Villages FMIPA Unila Chemistry Department program which has provided benefits to the people of Rejomulyo Village. The activity is part of the MBKM BKP building village program, taking place on Wednesday, September 20 2023, at the Rejomulyo village hall.

Among those present at this activity were Tushandoro and Hartono, the head and the secretary of Rejomulyo respectively, Rejomulyo residents, particularly women, and Dr. Agung Abadi Kiswandono, the coordinator of the MBKM BKP building village program at the Chemistry Department, FMIPA Unila.
