(Unila): The Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP) of the University of Lampung (Unila) held a professorial talk show in the context of the 58th Anniversary of FKIP Unila, which took place in the K Hall of FKIP Unila, Thursday, January 29, 2026.

This activity carried the theme “Sustainable Collaboration in Realizing an Impactful, Superior, and Globally Competitive FKIP of the University of Lampung”.

This activity presented 24 FKIP Unila professors from various fields of educational science, as well as invited guests from various circles.

The event was officially opened by Unila Rector Prof. Dr. Ir. Lusmeilia Afriani, DEA, IPM., ASEAN Eng. In her remarks, the Unila Rector emphasized that current educational challenges are increasingly complex and cannot be solved by any single institution alone.

“Education cannot be shouldered by one institution or one actor alone. Schools cannot operate alone, universities cannot rest in their ivory towers, and policies without academic support risk losing their way,” She emphasized.

She emphasized that sustainable collaboration must stem from sensitivity to real-world issues, be reinforced by science and research, and be realized through community service that has a direct impact on the community.

According to her, education is not just about curriculum and technology, but about humans as the main subject.

FKIP as one of the oldest faculties at Unila is considered to have a strategic role in shaping the quality of education in Lampung Province.

During its 58-year journey, FKIP has produced thousands of educators and agents of change who have contributed directly to the nation’s progress.

Dr. Albet Maydiantoro, M.Pd., as Dean of FKIP Unila expressed his appreciation for the holding of the FKIP professors’ talk show.

He considered the academic forum a strategic space to strengthen collaboration between universities and local governments in improving the quality of education in Lampung.

“Through this forum, we hope that the professors’ ideas and recommendations will not just stop at academic discussions, but can be followed up into educational policies and programs that have a real impact on the people of Lampung,” he said.

He also emphasized that educational challenges, such as increasing the Gross Participation Rate (APK), require the input of all stakeholders, including academics, to realize a sustainable and competitive transformation of regional education.

As a follow-up to this commitment, FKIP Unila will launch a book entitled “Strategic Thinking of FKIP Professors at the University of Lampung in Improving the Quality of Education in Lampung Province”.

This book contains the academic ideas and reflections of professors to reflect on their academic journey and strengthen the scientific contributions that have been made so far.

In addition, this work also serves as a forum for formulating the direction of FKIP Unila’s thinking in responding to the challenges and dynamics of education in Lampung Province.

It is hoped that this book can provide a real contribution to improving the quality of education in the future through strategic and reflective perspectives from senior academics.

Meanwhile, Thomas Amirico, S.STP., MH, as Head of the Lampung Provincial Education Office also emphasized the importance of the role of higher education in responding to fundamental educational problems in Lampung, particularly regarding the low critical thinking skills of students and the quality of educational input.

According to him, improving the quality of education must be a shared responsibility between local governments and all education stakeholders.

“Discussion spaces in our classrooms and schools remain empty because students’ reasoning skills haven’t been developed. Many children today don’t dare to ask questions and aren’t ready to be asked. This is a reality on the ground and a major problem we face together,” he emphasized.

He also stated that the teacher recruitment and professional development process has not fully met ideal academic and pedagogical standards. In fact, teachers are still found teaching in areas inconsistent with their academic background.

This condition also influences the achievement of the Human Development Index (HDI) and the disparity in the quality of education between regions, which has an impact on the concentration of students in certain schools in urban areas.

Through this professorial talk show, FKIP Unila is expected to continue to be a driving force behind regional educational transformation based on research, social sensitivity, and sustainable cross-sector collaboration. [Muzamil Kakar]
