(Unila): The University of Lampung (Unila) received supplementary funding, Rp 81 billions from the Directorate General of Higher Education and Technology for the revitalization of laboratories, including laboratory rehabilitation, procurement of laboratory equipment, and human resource development through training and competency certification, to raise the university sources of revenue which in turn will accelerate the shifting in status from the government-funded state university to self-funded state university.

In addition, the revitalization is extended to several series of activities, such as the laboratory service management system of development workshop, a blueprint for business process of laboratory service management system, toxic and hazardous waste management system (B-3), and creation of standard operating procedures (SOP) for B-3 waste management.

The revitalization process of the Unila laboratories was guided by the Integrated Research and Testing Laboratory (LPPT) team from Gadjah Mada University (UGM), as well as the Integrated Laboratory Unit team of the Bogor Agricultural Institute (IPB).

Unila has carried out competency certification training according to the National Professional Certification Agency (BNSP) over a number of the certification schemes among others for Welders, Organic Plant Inspectors, Terrestrial Survey Technicians, Fish Cultivation, K-3 Supervisors, Radio Frequency Engineering, and Production Managers.

Another 46 competency certification schemes are in progress of assessment by BNSP by the middle of this year. The funding is expected to facilitate Unila to improve better ranking so that Unila reaches the top 10 state university. It may also be spent to develop academic and non-academic activities as well as economic sources that may minimize the impact on the environmental damages.

In the future, Unila laboratories will not only carry out the research interests of students and lecturers, but also establish cooperation with industries, stakeholders, and the community for laboratory testing services.

Unila is also attempting to establish a large-scale B-3 waste management site on the Kota Baru land, the only B-3 waste management site in Sumatra which in turn will be one of the Unila’s core business.

So far Unila has implemented 20 competency certification schemes for lecturers and laboratory assistants at the faculty level with a total of 473 lecturers and laboratory assistants having competency certificates from BNSP.

Ten Unila laboratories should be ready to serve the public in 2025, through the application, Marketplace which is currently under construction. The application has been provided with features of types of laboratory equipment, types of laboratory tests, equipment capacity/volume, equipment specifications, laboratory test process time duration, and rates per lab test.

The ten laboratories that are ready to serve the public are the Analytical and Instrumentation Lab (Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences), Organic Chemistry Lab (Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences), Biochemistry Lab (Family of Mathematics and Natural Sciences), Agricultural Product Quality Testing Lab (Faculty of Agriculture), Oceanography Lab (Faculty of Agriculture), Soil Measurement Lab (Faculty of Agriculture), Highway Lab (Faculty of Engineering), Materials and Construction Lab (Faculty of Engineering), Geothermal Geophysics Lab (Faculty of Engineering), and Metrology Lab (Faculty of Engineering).
