(Unila): Mid-May 2023, fourteen students from the University of Lampung (Unila) Dance Education Study Program won the Islamic Creative Dance Competition conducted at the Lampung Begawi event in Lampung City Mall.

Lampung Begawi is an annual festival organized by Bank Indonesia (BI) Lampung and known as LAGAWI FEST. This is a support activity for the Indonesian G20 Presidency and the Indonesian Tourism Proud Movement (GBWI).

The Islamic Creative Dance Competition was one of the competitions conducted at the event. This competition’s concept of dance is not only to Islamize dance, but also to showcase dance works anchored in Islamic tradition.

14 students of the Unila Dance Arts Education Study Program attained the top positions after passing through multiple phases of selection, including the presentation of the work concept, the submission of video works, the selection of the top three, and the determination of the winner on May 14, 2023.

The dance titled “Cakak Mekkah” was performed by four students, Ade Liesna Carin Aliya, Nanda Alia Fahsa, Rara Ardelia Artanti, and Helda Apriliani and they deserved the first winners.

Rara told reporters that the performance was inspired by the “Three Stone Furnace” (Benuwo, Begawi, and Cakak Mekkah), a community structure in Lampung.

For the indigenous people of Lampung, particularly those who construct a house, the ability to operate the Meccan Gecko refers to a symbol of perfection, regarded as their high motivation.

Denta Pramana Putra’19, Ahmad Faisal Akbar’19, Ikhsan Taufiq’19, Sairul Anwar’19, and Irfan Wahid’19 won second position. They displayed a piece titled “Robbana” that was inspired by a wedding procession in the Coastal region of Lampung.

This dance represents a Middle Eastern percussion instrument called the Rebana, which is typically accompanied by the salawat in a procession of procession. This tradition served as the inspiration for the “Robbana” production.

The third-place finishers were Nurrohmah’21, Putri Salsabila’21, Yumna Annis Dhiyafaatin’21, Dera Safira’21, and Bela Rahma Sari’21.

“Halalun Bihalalin” was the name of the performance they performed, which was inspired by the Muslim community’s halalbihalal tradition during the Eid al-Fitr celebration. This dance is based on the fundamental movement of holding hands, which symbolizes forgiveness and doing good to one another.

“By participating in this competition, we hope to demonstrate that the dance education study program is the driving force behind the growth of the dance world in Lampung,” said Denta.

With the triumph of its students in the Islamic creation dance competition, the Unila Dance Education Study Program has strengthened its position as the leading force in the development of the dance world in Lampung. This accomplishment afforded the first-place winner the opportunity to represent Lampung at the Sumatran Sharia Festival. [PR Team]
