The undergraduate student majoring in Mechanical Engineering at Unila, supported by the Developing Countries Partnership Scholarship (KNB), is experiencing something he had never imagined before.

He traveled from Zambia to Indonesia to pursue his studies, but at the campus that has now become part of his life, he instead has the chance to learn about Indonesia through a tradition he had never encountered.

This opportunity arose when Unila’s International Affairs Office (KUI) selected Aaron to represent international students in the Paskibraka ranks during the PKKMB opening. Although he had never participated in a similar activity before, Aaron welcomed the chance with enthusiasm, seizing it as an opportunity to try something new.

Under the guidance of the team and his peers during practice sessions, Aaron gradually became familiar with the movements and protocols to follow. This experience taught him valuable lessons about discipline, teamwork, and the spirit of togetherness. For Aaron, this process became a delightful part of his journey in understanding the culture and campus life in Indonesia.

All of this culminated in a moment when Aaron finally stood in the Paskibraka ranks before the new students. The nervousness he felt at the beginning of the rehearsals transformed into gratitude and pride. As a student from Zambia, he felt honored to be part of a significant moment at the campus that has become his second home.

“When I stood as part of the Paskibraka during today’s PKKMB opening, I felt incredibly grateful, excited, and, of course, proud. For me, this is an extraordinary honor,” Aaron stated.

This experience allowed Aaron to view Indonesia from a different perspective. His involvement in PKKMB let him directly feel the strong sense of unity and enthusiasm that he perceived as overwhelmingly powerful.

Before becoming a part of Unila, Indonesia had already captured Aaron’s attention. He learned about Unila through the KNB Scholarship and was immediately drawn to the concept of a green campus and the beautiful campus environment. His desire to understand Indonesian culture and meet people from diverse backgrounds further strengthened his resolve to come to Lampung.

Now, Aaron has found an environment that makes him comfortable to learn and grow. For him, Unila has become a place to build relationships, explore new cultures, and open himself up to experiences he had never envisioned.

One of the most memorable experiences for Aaron during PKKMB 2026 was when he received his alma mater. The fabric of the alma mater has become more than just a student’s identity. For Aaron, that moment felt like a marker that the long journey from Zambia had finally led him to become part of the Unila family.

This sense of pride then grew into a desire to give back. Throughout his education at Unila, Aaron hopes to develop not only academically but also through innovations and activities that benefit others. He aims to foster a positive community and contribute to creating meaningful change.

“Unila is not just where I learn, but also where I grow, build relationships, and make contributions. I hope to have a positive impact on others and contribute to a better Indonesia,” he concluded.

From Zambia to Lampung, Aaron’s journey exemplifies that the courage to embrace new experiences can lead one to find the essence of a journey. At Unila, he is not only here to gain knowledge but also to learn about togetherness, appreciate differences, and become a part of Indonesia.
