(Unila): Universitas Lampung (Unila<\/a>) continues to strengthen its role in supporting national development through research and innovation in the agro-industrial sector. One of these efforts is realized through the development of cassava downstreaming that focuses on enhancing added value, competitiveness, and sustainability.<\/p>\n

This commitment is reflected in the synergy between Unila and the government and industry during the visit of the Minister of National Development Planning (PPN) \/ Head of the National Development Planning Agency (Bappenas), Prof. Dr. Ir. Rachmat Pambudy, M.S., on Saturday, July 25, 2026, at PT Budi Starch & Sweetener Tbk., Gunung Batin, Central Lampung.<\/p>\n

The inspection of production facilities and the exhibition of innovations showcasing products from the food sector, mineral water, fertilizers, as well as processed palm oil and cassava, highlight the importance of strengthening the agro-industry in creating added value for domestic commodities. Through this approach, a single commodity can be developed into various products that are competitive in both national and international markets.<\/p>\n

Strengthening the agro-industrial sector is an important step to transform Indonesia’s comparative advantages into competitive advantages through the utilization of technology and innovation. In addition to supporting food security, this approach is also in line with the principles of a green economy that promotes sustainable development with a forward-looking orientation.<\/p>\n

During the occasion, the Minister of PPN \/ Head of Bappenas emphasized that the success of national cassava development relies not only on increasing productivity but also on strengthening collaboration between the government, higher education institutions, industry, and society. Downstream development also needs to be directed toward enhancing the role of research and innovation in producing value-added products.<\/p>\n

“These components are actually our control mechanisms, how the National Cassava Center that has been established can advance not only to promote better downstreaming but also to strengthen cooperation between the business world and universities,” he stated.<\/p>\n

This statement further emphasizes the role of the National Cassava Center (NCC) at Unila as a national collaboration center that integrates research, innovation, industry, and farmers in the development of cassava in Indonesia. Through the NCC, Unila promotes increased productivity, downstreaming, and the application of Good Agricultural Practices to create sustainable added value.<\/p>\n

Collaboration between Unila and the Sungai Budi Group also opens up broader opportunities for the development of innovations based on industrial needs. This synergy enables the practical application of research results and technological developments produced by universities, while simultaneously strengthening the sustainable national cassava ecosystem.<\/p>\n

In line with these efforts, the President Commissioner of the Sungai Budi Group, Widarto, stated that various innovations and sustainable industrial practices are continuously developed to support food security and strengthen national competitiveness.<\/p>\n

“This visit provides an overview of the production process, technology development, and various efforts that we have undertaken and continue to implement in supporting food security, industrial downstreaming, and enhancing national competitiveness,” he remarked.<\/p>\n

The collaboration between Unila and the Sungai Budi Group aligns with Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) point 17 regarding partnerships to achieve goals. This synergy strengthens the ecosystem for national cassava development through the involvement of the government, higher education institutions, industry, and society in a continuous collaborative chain.<\/p>\n

Through this collaboration, the development of cassava is expected not only to enhance productivity and added value of commodities but also to strengthen Indonesia’s competitiveness on a global scale.
