This activity was centred in the Ancol Gen Beach area, Pesawahan Village, South Teluk Betung District, Bandar Lampung.

This work programme was initiated based on an analysis of the geographical conditions of Pesawahan Village, which is surrounded by river flows and open sea. Such conditions render this coastal area vulnerable to threats of erosion and flooding during the rainy season, as well as when sea water levels rise.

In addition to the planting activities, the KKN students from Unila also conducted an educational outreach session regarding the importance of protective vegetation along coastal areas, as well as the correct methods for planting mangrove seedlings.

Present as a resource person during this educational session was Dr. Indriyanto, S.Hut., M.P., a lecturer from the Forestry Department of the Faculty of Agriculture at Unila, who provided technical training to the local community.

In his presentation, he explained that the mangrove ecosystem was chosen due to its crucial role in maintaining the balance of coastal environments, preventing erosion, dampening the impact of sea waves, and aiding in the reduction of flood effects.

In addition to its ecological functions as a disaster barrier, mangrove forests also serve as a natural habitat for various marine organisms, which can support the economy of local fishermen.

This environmental initiative spearheaded by the academic community of Unila has received full support and appreciation from the local government. Present at the event were the Head of the Agriculture Office of Bandar Lampung, Dedeh Ernawati Fauzie, the District Head of South Teluk Betung, and officials from Pesawahan Village.

The presence of these stakeholders serves as tangible evidence of a strong synergy between the community service programmes of higher education institutions and the local government’s initiatives for the development of green open spaces and the protection of coastal areas.

Through the planting of 1,250 mangrove seedlings at Ancol Gen Beach, the KKN students from Unila hope to contribute to the long-term preservation of coastal ecosystems while minimising disaster risks for the community of Pesawahan Village in the future.
