This event took place at the Dean’s Building of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA) at Unila.

ONMIPA-PT is a prestigious annual scientific competition at the higher education level in Indonesia, held annually by the Ministry of Higher Education, Research, and Technology (Kemdiktisaintek).

This competition tests the high academic and analytical abilities of students in the fields of Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, and Biology, with a tiered selection process from the university level, through regional, to national levels.

This year, a total of 204 students from five faculties at Unila participated in the selection. The participants hailed from the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA), the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP), the Faculty of Medicine (FK), the Faculty of Engineering (FT), and the Faculty of Agriculture (FP).

The Chair of the ONMIPA Unila 2026 Committee, Dr. Junaidi, S.Si., M.Sc., detailed the distribution of participants as follows: 64 students in the field of Biology, 56 in Mathematics, 45 in Chemistry, and 39 in Physics.

“Each faculty sends a maximum of 20 representatives per field. From this selection, we will choose the top five students in each field to represent Unila at the South Sumatra regional level (Sumbagsel),” he explained.

As a demonstration of commitment to preparing the participants, the university has implemented a coaching programme led by faculty members in each department. Students who pass the university-level selection will subsequently undergo intensive coaching alongside their supervising lecturers before facing the regional selection.

Moreover, students who succeed at the regional level will be selected as representatives to advance to the national level, which is scheduled to take place in June 2026 at Airlangga University.

Dr. Junaidi also stated that Unila aims to improve its achievements in this year’s ONMIPA. In 2025, Unila secured third place at the national level in the field of Biology and successfully advanced several other fields to the regional stage.

“It is hoped that this year, we can either enhance that achievement or at least maintain it. We are targeting all four fields to progress to the national level,” he remarked.

He conveyed a motivational message to the participants, encouraging them to remain confident and to strive to give their best.

“As long as they possess high spirit and motivation, Unila students can compete on equal footing with students from other higher education institutions,” he concluded.
