Lusmeilia Afriani, D.E.A., IPM., ASEAN Eng.; the Chairman of Commission III of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Habiburokhman, S.H., M.H.; and the Mayor of Bandar Lampung, Eva Dwiana, S.E., M.Si.

Also present were Dr. Budiyono, S.H., M.H., an academic from the Faculty of Law at Unila; Tin Latifah, S.P., M.Si., CGCAE., QIA., an Expert Staff from the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Indonesia; and Prof. Warsito, S.Si., D.E.A., Ph.D., Deputy for Coordination of Character Strengthening and National Identity at the Ministry of Human Development and Cultural Coordination, accompanied by one assistant.

The leadership team, including the vice-deans, student organisations, and officials from BEM U KBM Unila and BEM U KBM across Lampung Province, were also in attendance.

Aditiya Putra Bayu, the newly elected Chairman of BEM U KBM Unila, stated that BEM exists not merely as a component of the system but as a representation of students that holds a function of oversight over public policy.

“We do not position ourselves as a part of the government composition; rather, we position ourselves as a critical sensor of the government. We are ready to synergise, we are eager to collaborate, should the policies be beneficial and in favour of the people. Conversely, if the policies are detrimental and not in favour, we will continue to monitor them,” he remarked.

In her address, Prof. Lusi emphasised that the Studium Generale and the inauguration of BEM are not merely ceremonial but represent a significant moment that integrates academic values, culture, and student leadership.

She asserted that students hold a strategic role as agents of change, guardians of values, and social movers in facing the challenges towards Industry 5.0 and Indonesia Gold 2045.

“Today’s event is not just a series of ceremonial activities; it is an academic and organisational momentum that bears profound meaning. This theme is highly relevant to the current state of our nation. Students do not merely play the role of learners but also act as agents of change, guardians of values, and social controllers,” she stated.

The Governor of Lampung continued the address by underscoring the importance of student leadership responsibility in carrying out the mandate of the organisation. He conveyed that BEM is not merely a platform for activities but a space for leadership learning, idea development, and community service.

“Today you bear a mandate. This mandate is not merely a position but a moral responsibility. Therefore, I wish to impart four messages: nurture idealism, elevate to solutions, strengthen collaboration, and create a legacy. Remember, BEM is not just a place for activities; it is a laboratory for leadership, a laboratory for ideas, and a laboratory for service.”

During the session on material presentation, Habiburokhman expressed his views regarding the student movement, which he assessed as still being trapped in various myths, such as the perception of being an elite group, always opposing power, and being limited to student status.

He emphasised the necessity for students to transform into part of society, to think critically and systematically, and to consistently uphold idealistic values even after no longer being students.

“I believe there are several myths surrounding the student movement that we need to discuss. Friends cannot isolate themselves; they must integrate with society, with the people. The most important aspect is to employ a substantive method of thinking and to address the root of the problems,” he stated.

The event is expected to serve as a momentum for students to strengthen their roles as agents of change, not only to be active within organisations but also to provide tangible contributions to society.

With a spirit of collaboration, leadership, and critical thinking, students of Unila are anticipated to respond to the challenges of the era and to play a role in realising Indonesia Gold 2045.

The activities were subsequently followed by a session of Studium Generale featuring various speakers who provided insights, inspiration, and strategic perspectives to students in facing the era of Industry 5.0.
