Education Day Reflection: Manifest the Education Dignity
(Unila): The development of education should result in educational products that are dignified, tolerant, and humanized as well as prioritizing a scientific authority, as expressed by a number of academicians in order to reflect the momentum of the National Education Day.
Maulana Mukhlis, a Lecturer from the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, said that if this does not serve as the foundation of educational visions and missions, then the education can in itself be the bottleneck of the economic and technology development indicated by the emergence of gaps: the cultural, social, and vocational gap in the form of the abundance of educated unemployment.
In terms of educational development policy, Maulana affirmed that the future development of education should start from assessments in the national level. “The status and condition of education should be clearly based on the standard and measures of progress which are transparent in order for the public to follow the progress of existing education easily,” he said on Wednesday (5 / 5).
In addition, the education development plan should have a grounded discussion which is capable of covering all aspects and issues of education exhaustively, with both normative and quantitative measurable expectations.
To support these policies, according to Ricky P. Marly, a student from the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP), the government should really set the education budget as 20%, as the national education system reform insists. ”If not properly applied, it will be very difficult for Indonesia to get out of the current bad conditions. Let alone to compete with other countries, to stand upright on its own country will not be easy for Indonesia, ” said a student who is also active in the Teknokra Student Publications, Tuesday (4 / 5).
Meanwhile, to manifest the goal of education, the profile of qualified and humanist teachers become important aspects. According to Herpratiwi, a lecturer in the Teacher Training College, Lampung University, “Teachers should have a willingness to make plans about what will be discussed with their students, so that the learning days will always be full of challenges and expectations. Do not just imitate others’ lesson plans, teachers should have a self-actualization. Do not just come to the physiological needs when teaching. And never let it happen, yesterday’s, today’s and tomorrow’s situations remain the same, “she said.
Teachers should be able to sit in line with other professions while always thinking of what will be done for the future to civilize and empower students. Further, they should dare to be different, protect against “viruses” of lazy learning, “viruses” erosion of idealism, “viruses” of lacking confidence, etc. If those viruses can be avoided, the combination of work, spirits, and learning will come into reality and will be followed by other positive values.
