Joint Collaboration between Lampung University and Kentucky University DNA Science Workshop
(Unila): Lampung University in collaboration with the University of Kentucky, Lexington organized “DNA Science Workshop” that were carried out for three days from Monday (10/05/2010) to Wednesday (05/12/2010), housed in the Department of Agronomy, Faculty of Agriculture, Unila and was followed by as many as 23 participants from Lampung University which consisted of lecturers, professors at the University of Bangka Belitung, high school teachers, delegates from PT GMP (Gunung Madu Plantation) and the delegates from the Malaysian High Tech Agro.
Instructors of this workshop were Joe Choppel, Ph.D., Yuan Lin, Ph.D., Scott Kinison, BS (Plant Biology Program, University of Kentucky, Lexington), Dr. Fatchiya Fatah (UB) and Prof.Dr. Setyo Dwi Utomo (University of Lampung).
According to chairman of the organizing committee, Dr. Dwi Hapsoro, this program aims at providing the understanding and skills for the participants of the workshop about the manipulation of DNA (deoxyribose nucleic acid), “understanding and skills of manipulation of DNA is very important because it is the basis for the practice of biotechnology” said Hapsoro.
In this workshop, the participants were given direct materials and laboratory practices guided directly by the instructors, therefore, participants were expected to be easier to absorb and comprehend the material.
